Fresh out of the Abletech oven today 🥐
According to Wikipedia croissant dough is layered with butter then rolled and folded several times in succession, producing a layered flaky texture similar to puff pastry.
The 🥐 crescent-shaped breads are a staple in Austrian and French bakeries.
Apparently the original croissant was called Kipfel and originated in Austria in 1683 (not France!). It was created in honour of the Austrian victory over the Turks and modeled after the crescent on the Turkish flag 🇹🇷
The pre-formed frozen variety that we used (thanks to a school fundraiser) was developed in the 1970s and we’re very grateful!
