Most of us are onboard with the fact that humans have been overconsuming the earth's resources at an unsustainable rate. Action from a global, government, and local government level is still unsatisfactory. Everyone needs to start doing their bit, and hopefully each little bit adds up and makes a big difference.
Abletech Values - Part 1
In April 2022 we checked in with the team to find out how connected they feel to the Abletech values and ask if they were empowered to live them each day at Abletech. This blog is a summary of the results from the April survey.
Pink shirt day
We promoted positive social relationships and celebrated Pink Shirt Day with aroha and respect at Abletech. We joined the Mental Health Foundation’s campaign to open up conversations that prevent bullying and nurture mental wellbeing.
Māori cultural competency
Our team had a fantastic day with Tania Te Whenua who tailored a Tū Tangata training workshop for us. She included Māori language and customary concepts as they form part of NZ’s shared cultural heritage and identity.
Sign language & mental health
Two important weeks are marked this week. Deaf Aotearoa marks NZ Sign Language. The Mental Health Foundation of NZ marks Mental Health Awareness.

One of our Abletech Team Values is being Sustainable. For us there are a few themes that sit under that. One is that we value good work-life balance, and building a strong team culture.

Last year, my partner and I moved to Canada, mainly to explore the other side of the world from New Zealand. We wanted to be away one or two years, but we didn’t have funds to do that without working.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week. The Mental Health Foundation of NZ suggest five ways to wellbeing at work. There are lots of ideas here, including being active. This year, with a nature theme, we’re encouraged to get outdoors 🌱 to strengthen our wellbeing and lift our mood.

Getting Ready
Each of us needs a bag we can grab. A small backpack of essential items to grab if you have to quickly evacuate with little or no warning. It’s especially important if you will have to walk a long way to get home during an emergency.

Our app showing AED locations nationwide saved a local life this week. Well done to Alea for using the app to find her nearest defibrillator. Great to see so many AEDs available in the Cuba Mall area:
Happiness — a fundamental human goal
The UN proclaimed March 20th** International Day of Happiness** to emphasise our need for the ‘happiness and well-being of all peoples’.

So since the last time I have not allocated a huge amount of time to the raised bed but I have kept an eye on things and watched as the seeds germinated and the seedlings started to take hold.
