In April 2022 we checked in with the team to find out how connected they feel to the Abletech values and ask if they were empowered to live them each day at Abletech. This blog is a summary of the results from the April survey.

When presented with some damning statistics on the presence of Māori and Pacific peoples in corporate-sector leadership positions, Abletech was delighted to join a campaign for change.

To celebrate World Environment Day, we took part in Conservation Volunteers NZ’s tree planting competition at Tawatawa Reserve in Island Bay.

We went wild for our Christmas celebrations and spent a lovely sunny Saturday in Wellington’s green belt at the world’s first Toitū zoo. Wellington’s zoo is officially carbon neutral.

Our team had a fantastic day with Tania Te Whenua who tailored a Tū Tangata training workshop for us. She included Māori language and customary concepts as they form part of NZ’s shared cultural heritage and identity.

We’ve been holding team board games nights for a few years now and they’re always entertaining and popular.

Māori Language Week helps us all remember that te reo is a cornerstone of New Zealand culture, and an important part of our country’s heritage. Te reo Māori is an official language of NZ. It’s a great time to be part of the broader language revival and raise public awareness and usage. Our participation links with our #TeamValues.

After finishing a Bachelor of Science majoring in Computer Science, and several months of job searching, I applied for an internship at Abletech.

Our Friday tech talks and social gatherings are bringing our team together more than ever. With the Abletech team working from home our virtual meetings are alive and well.

Developers are well versed at working from home. In fact, our developers have been known to code from beaches and snowy alps at the best of times. However, having our entire team locked down and working from home is new for us.

We’ve been working from home, or working remotely, for a few years now. Are you moving into a work from home phase? Here are some things we’ve learnt.

Over the years we’ve had good success with interns. It’s great to bring someone on board and get to know them for three months. It’s important for us to observe how our interns fit in with our team values and culture. From time to time we’ve offered our interns permanent positions.
